João Pimenta Gomes New Age

New Age is João Pimenta Gomes’s installation for the Project Room of the MAAT Gallery in Lisbon, on view from 2 October 2026 to 22 February 2027. GGS Productions developed and implemented the technical audio system that carries its sound.

A group of leaf-shaped metal objects, each able to resonate, occupies the room. Sound, light and matter act on one another, so the space is experienced as one continuous sensory environment rather than a sequence of separate pieces. The installation was conceived for the architecture that receives it, and it unfolds over time instead of resolving in a single look.

02 / The story

The story

João Pimenta Gomes (born in Lisbon, 1989) works between music and the visual arts. He trained in music production, photography and drawing, and in his practice sound sits beside image, drawing and sculpture. His projects often take their form from the spaces they occupy, building immersive, durational environments out of objects, sound and light. New Age continues that line of research, here addressed to the proportions of the MAAT Project Room, where he had already shown work in 2022.

15 independent channels, one spatial system

GGS developed and implemented the audio system for New Age on 15 independent playback channels, each running as its own path. The work covered programming, installation and integration in the Project Room, followed by technical follow-up and maintenance, so that the sound stays stable and precisely placed while the composition of objects, sound and light remains the artist’s.
