Video as a record of instability

Tension & Conflict: Video Art After 2008 brought together works by 22 artists examining the social, political and economic consequences of the 2008 financial crisis through moving image. Across MAAT’s Main Gallery and Video Room, the exhibition moved between documentary material, protest imagery, everyday news and more poetic responses to a period of profound instability.

02 / The story

A museum made of filmic spaces

The exhibition transformed the galleries into a sequence of distinct viewing environments. Large-scale projections, individual displays and multi-screen works had to coexist while preserving the visual and sonic conditions of each artwork. The result was not a single cinema, but a landscape of moving-image situations distributed throughout the museum.

The technology stays in service of the work.

GGS was responsible for the audiovisual project, installation and programming. The work involved translating the requirements of multiple video works into reliable exhibition systems, integrating projection, displays, playback and audio across the galleries, and completing the programming, testing and final commissioning required for continuous museum operation.
